Get excited!! This year we will be celebrating the 75th Homecoming. In honor of this, we’ve decided to completely change the game. We are putting a huge emphasis on inclusion for this year’s celebration. While the effort to having accessible Homecoming events and activities has always been made, we are putting even more effort into truly bringing together the Truman community as a whole. To do this, we’ve created different involvement categories! Each category will have its own overall and event-specific winners, making this year the most inclusive Homecoming Celebration that we have ever had.
Celebration: This category is open to all people in the surrounding community (students, professors, staff, etc.) and allows individuals to invest as much time as they choose! Attending things like the Blood Drive, Kickoff Event, Lipsync, Pep Rally, and Parade are perfect for Celebration and have been designed to be more inviting. The Kickoff Event will be on Wednesday and consists of a 2-person-team Cornhole Tournament, as well as live music and more. On Friday, individuals can attend the Lipsync performance and are encouraged to sign up and participate in the solo Lipsync Battle on stage. At the Pep Rally, Homecoming Committee will announce all of the winners for philanthropy and overall winners for each category. Individuals are encouraged to participate in philanthropic fundraising by attending benefit nights at various establishments throughout the Kirksville community in the weeks leading up to Homecoming.
Spike: This category is perfect for small groups of friends who may or may not belong to an organization on campus. Looking for more engagement? The Spike category includes all activities and events listed in the Celebration category, along with some small team competitions. Show some Truman spirit during our Homecoming Week by competing in the Cornhole Tournament and Scavenger Hunt with teams of 2-5 people! Individuals in this category may also compete in the Penny Bucket War and Chalk Competition. There will be awards and prizes for the Cornhole Tournament, Chalk Competition, and Penny Bucket War.
White: This category is great for smaller organizations and those new to Homecoming participation, with every aspect of the Spike and Celebration categories…and even more! Organizations in this category are invited to participate in all activities that are encompassed by the Celebration and Spike categories, as well as competing in the Philanthropy Fundraising Competitions (both raising money and the Penny Bucket War). Creating a float for the Homecoming Parade to be judged and performing a Skit at the Lip Sync event (a 4 minute skit with 2 songs) are optional, but highly encouraged. There will be awards for the Homecoming Parade floats, Philanthropy Fundraising, Chalk Competition, and Penny Bucket War.
Purple: This category will have the most time dedicated and organization participation, and is great for larger organizations or organizations that have previously competed in Homecoming. The compilation of all activities and competitions in Celebration and Spike are included along with creating a float for the Homecoming Parade to be judged, performing at the Lip Sync competition, and competing in the Individual and Team Philanthropy brackets to create an action-packed and fun-filled week. Organizations in this category will be competing for the brand-new Homecoming Cup, as well as other awards.
